Birthdays and Anniversaries

Sue McLellan celebrated her birthday today. Everyone at the table was really happy for her and gladly paid the fine! Angie Darlinson celebrated her birthday as well. Brian Bontje was overheard saying that he didn't believe that table paid any levy. Congratulations to both of these young ladies from all of your friends at Rotary! Best wishes on your special day and good health for the future.

There were no anniversaries to celebrate this week.

Free Breakfast

Don Welsh won this week's free breakfast.

2. Don Hutton chipped in $2 to mention and compliment the wonderful job Renee Bos and all of the Horticultural Society has done on the flowers adorning city hall. Well done.

3. Tom Hill was elated that his son's team was on the ice ten times this month. It looks like it will be a long winter.

4. Wayne Routly was glad to be back from his successful fishing trip - they were throwing back 30" pickerel.

5. Don Welsh flicked in 10 bucks commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the COAA.

6. Angie put in three bucks and announced she was finished three and only three more to go. I missed what it was.

7. Oops! Harry Cooke plugged up a couple of the regional roads when he played full body contact with a Subaru on Taunton Road. Everybody go out safely.

8. Reg announced that due to heavy rain and flooding the building that replaced the earlier one destroyed by fire last year has floated down closer to the water. Sounds like a disaster to me but Reg exclaimed it was where he wanted it in the first pace anyway.

9. Good luck to Ross Metcalf tomorrow. He is having his 2nd hip replaced. We know that all will go well. Remember Ross "We're pullin' for you!"

10. Assistant Dist Governor Peter kicked in $5 to tell us that our contribution to the foundation walk put the total over $135,000. Not bad for a few folks getting together for a stroll, eh?

Rotarian in the Spotlight - Gloria Moring and Dennis Roberts

Gloria Moring 1year and Dennis Roberts 31 years both inaugurated into Rotary on September 18 - 07 and 77. The club is looking forward to working with you both. Your enthusiasm and Great Spirit add a lot to the team.

Guest Speakers - Ted Morrison and Don Welsh

Assistant District Governor Ted Morrison visited today and delivered a short message encouraging new comers as well as old time Rotarians to attend the District Conference this fall. It is coming up in October and will convene at the newly renovated Deerhurst Inn.

Ted's talk was followed by a well prepared power point presentation that was inviting, funny, encouraging, thought provoking and the best advertising I've seen so far in my short tenure as a Rotarian.

Part two of the program was a well prepared and informative talk on the 10th Anniversary of the Clarington Older Adults Association. Don Welsh was the speaker most aptly introduced by his long time associate and supporter Harry Cooke. Did you know that Don:
1. was born April 4th 1942
2. he is happily married to his wife Norma and still speaks with his daughter Tracy
3. has been a tireless volunteer in the community as demonstrated by sitting on the Orono Fair Board, planner and organizer for Bowmanville Santa Claus parade, involved with 4H Club and Junior farmers, past President of the Rotary Club Bowmanville 20 years ago by a vote of 10 to 1, this year recognized as senior citizen of the Year by the Municipality of Clarington.

Truly Don and Norma are really there when it counts.

The COAA is lucky to have him as their champion. Along with Program Director Angie Darlinson this dynamic duo make it happen on Beech Avenue for now!

Ace of Hearts 50/50 Draw

The draw this week was for $580. Happy Bill Hyder owned the lucky ticket. He failed to draw the Ace of Hearts. Remember everyone - Ross always says, "Good luck at getting your ticket pulled next week!"

President Denis' Inspirational Quote for the Week
