Happy Bucks

Adopt-a-Road cleanup was very successful. Thanks to all who showed up. There wasn't a safe piece of garbage within miles of the place….oops kilometers.

Don H paid a buck just to admit that dementia had taken over and he completely forgot about the event.

Wayne paid a buck to pontificate upon the fact that as he believed that state and religion were separate. Did you know that this very church will indeed become a polling station for the up and coming Federal Election October 14. How about that?

Dennis was pleased along with Renee that there would be an induction today - that of Linda Vianale.

Rotarians in the Spotlight - Ted Witherspoon, Wayne Routly, Steve Jones and Sue McClellan

October 4, 2005 marked a special day in the history of the club. Ted Witherspoon, Wayne Routly, Steve Jones and Sue McClellan all joined our Bowmanville Rotary club. We certainly are fortunate to have these three individuals as club members. Their devotion, work ethic and dedication are second to none. I believe the adage "When the going gets tough, the tough get going" is applicable to all three individuals. Of note is that Wayne and Sue both came over from the Courtice Club.

Induction of Linda Vignale

Guest Speaker - Brad Arbour

Brad Arbour, Fred Mandryk and Meaghan.

Brad Arbour signs a children's book with President Denis Beaulieu.

Wayne Routly provided a detailed and fine introduction of Brad Arbour, current Director of the Firehouse Program. The program has been in existence for 10 years now and supported by Rotary from the get go.

The program services students between the ages of 8 to 15. The ages have been declining as more and more youngsters discover the great activities being provided. The youngsters are somewhat less fortunate so this have on Church Street is "just what the doctor ordered."

Brad is being ably assisted by a Co-op student Meaghan, from Durham College as well as an Athletic Programmer, unable to attend.

A variety of activities are being offered. To name a few- paint ball; Trips to Science centre, Canada's Wonderland; Theatre "We will Rock You!" FLARE ( Fuel Learning Alternative Exercises) coinciding with the 2010 CIAF based on your ability to succeed - possibility, information and action. In addition the year saw the following events successfully completed: Heart and soul - a theatre production involving people from 10 to 80. Ticket sales raised &750.00; sale of Durham Golf Guides - raised over $500; Battle of the Bands - very successful ; 9 bands competed and everyone received an award from 6 hours of studio time to gift baskets and CD's. Sale of 200 tickets raised $2000; Great Balls of Fire Charity Golf raised $2500 - provided meals prizes; ever present "King's Court Catering providing the eats! This year Haunted House is being put on again October 24 and 25th. Did you know that over 20 volunteers help out on any given day behind the scenes?

Brad and Meaghan were thanked by your humble scribe. They graciously accepted our supporting cheque for $2500. Keep up the good work at the Firehouse! We all wish you continued success.

Ace of Hearts 50/50 Draw

The draw this week was for $750. Wayne Routly owned the lucky ticket. He failed to draw the Ace of Hearts but did pull a 9 of Spades. Remember everyone - Ross always says, "Good luck at getting your ticket pulled next week!" That won't happen if your not here.

President Denis' Inspirational Quote for the Week
