Happy Bucks |
Sue threw in 2 bucks and told us how appreciative she was that Bill P was here. The second buck was thanks for a fabulous weekend with great weather and her family all together for some real quality time. President Dennis and his wife got away to a secret hide-away resort for a couple of days of R&R - after the debacle in Saskatoon and Regina I would say "Dennis is sucking up big time!" Bob threw a buck in and expressed his thanks to Jean for sticking with him through thick and thin over the past 57 years. Chuck paid a buck to publically apologize for being "Naughty to Sue". He also thanked her for obtaining the pins and attendance bars from Harry Levine. |

Rotarian in the Spotlight |
None this week! |
Bill Patchett was passionately introduced by Sue McClellan. His curriculum vitae reads like a "what haven't you done". Bill is truly a busy fellow and since joining Rotary in 1988 this man has done a great deal for the community of Cobourg, The District and Rotary International. He is happily married to Dalphine for 47 years, has been blessed with two daughters, one son and five grand children. Among his accomplishments I list the following: Director of Cobourg Chamber of Commerce 2 year term; Crime stoppers; Co-Founder of the Marie Dressler foundation 1990; help establish Cobourg's Women in crisis centre; Chair of the Cobourg United way; Chaired the Northumberland Hospital Foundation Building Fund; Bill was the first chair of the Cobourg Arts and Crafts Festival; Has been Honored with Canada 125 Medal; Individual of the Year by the Chamber of commerce; Recognized Provincially by being awarded commemorative medals during International Year of the Volunteer (1of6) as well as Outstanding Community Involvement (1of12); Rotarians honored him as Rotarian of the Year as well as President of the Year. Bill's pitch was focused on polio eradication and raising the final $10.000.000. He reviewed the progress and advancement medical science has made in the last 80 years. First highlighted by the development and implementation of the "iron lung", followed by discovery and world distribution of Salk vaccine and ending with a list of the challenges faced by Rotarians and many volunteers trying to end Polio in the last four countries of India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria. The numbers are overwhelming and the task is daunting but together everyone will achieve more and beat this deadly disease. I'm sure we'll all do our part in helping Rotary raise the "10 mill". After a short Q&A, Bill was thanked by Ron Bailey. He summed it up best by saying "Your talk was inspirational and appreciated. Thank you and God Bless." Bill Patchett is truly a champion of the polio stricken child - our deepest thanks for a job well done. |

Ace of Hearts 50/50
Draw |
The draw this week was for $800. President Dennis owned the lucky ticket. He failed to draw the Ace of Hearts but did pull a 2 of Hearts. Remember everyone - Ross always says, "Good luck at getting your ticket pulled next week!" That won't happen if your not here. Ross is doing fine incidentally. He sends his warmest regards and hopes to see everyone in a couple of weeks. |
