Our guests this week were Greg Duval and Amber Ashton, both teachers representing G. J. MacGillivray PS. These two dedicated professionals gave an excellent presentation of how the "Who is Nobody" program was utilized in their grade five classroom last year at the school.

The program focuses on Character Development of the students by utilizing a doll which is taken home by committed individuals. It becomes a family member, focusing discussion on various character attributes that are a part of the individual lives and experiences of that student. For example one student shoveled a walkway for her neighbors who work in Toronto. She felt that this would be helpful to them. When they arrived home from work they wouldn't have the arduous task of cleaning off the driveway. It happened in the morning too! These neighbors certainly have a high opinion of what kind of students go to GJ MacGillivray PS. Another student brought the doll back with a "Food Bank" sticker pinned to its pocket. The child and the family worked at and made several donations to the local food bank in Oshawa and vicinity. Hunger is everywhere and can be addressed "with a little bit of help from each other!" The program will be repeated again this year in Mr. Duvall's classroom. Students from St. Stephen's HS also participated. They too had terrific results.

Our guests were thanked eloquently by Director Wayne Routly. As Wayne reiterated" Bowmanville rotary continues to support our young people and what they do in the community.

Ace of Hearts 50/50 Draw

The draw this week was for $850. Fred Devries owned the lucky ticket. He failed to draw the Ace of Hearts but did pull an 8 of clubs. Remember everyone - Ross always says, "Good luck at getting your ticket pulled next week!" That won't happen if your not here.
