· District Governor "Mike" Phelan is our guest speaker on December 30th. President Denis is hoping that everyone will be on there best behavior.

Happy Bucks

· Ross paid a couple of bucks to force us to listen to him "publically sucking up again" as he expressed Judy's delight in attending the last couple of meetings, having to drive the "little fella to breakee!" If you recall last week in a weak moment, he said she wasn't worth a buck - mistakenly.

· Sue reported that Andre told her that Renee was fine - surgery went well and she was feeling fine. If she did what Fred did she'd likely be at the Christmas party.

· Don Welsh threw in a sad buck and related how much he missed putting up the snow fence for the trees. Ted Watson and friends got it up!

· While visiting his son and grand kids I guess Wayne had been speaking of the recent election in the US. As kids do so often, one of his grand-daughters must have been listening. Later on that week during a phone from his daughter-in-law Wayne found out just how much she listened. Asking her mom a question as they set up the nativity scene, her daughter asked "Mommy where is Joe the Plumber?"

Kevin Anyan (L), Tanya Perry, and Ted Mann

This week our guest speaker was Tanya Perry, a Rotarian from the Sunrise Club in Whitby. In his introduction, Ted Mann related how Michael Jones, a former exchange student from Yorkshire from years gone by came from the Rotary Club that started this valuable initiative years later. Truly this is a "small world".

Having attended the National Conference in Salt Lake City, Tanya Perry was moved by a Project called "Shelter Box". After witnessing first hand the networking and the passion she observed that people had for various initiatives she decided then and there to become involved. She now volunteers as an Ambassador for Shelter Box Canada.

During her presentation Tanya informed us of the following:

· Shelter Box is ready to provide immediate relief, often where no one else can.

· Is a planned response to unpredictable disasters.

· It provides shelter, comfort, dignity…survival.

· One box cost $1200 and provides help for 10 people-shelter, means to clean drinking water and equipment for cooking.

· Since its inception it has collected $60 million and provided help for 500,000 people all over the world.

· Response Teams work closely with Regional Rotary Clubs.

The pamphlet details statistics, accomplishments and how easy it is to contribute. Being a charitable organization it is tax deductable. 97% of the funds raise go directly to the support victims. "Shelter Box - truly Rotarians Serving Humanitarian Aid Worldwide."

Kevin Anyan thanked the speaker eloquently, ending with "When will we help?"

Ace of Hearts 50/50 Draw

The draw this week was for $1300. "Dr. Al Sylvester" owned the lucky ticket. He was quick to draw an eight of Clubs leaving the pot for next week's winner who might be you. Good luck!
