Happy Bucks |

· Denis pitched in three and bought a tree, helps unload the trees and didn't break anything and knows full well this will be a successful sales campaign. For the people that say "hey these trees are too much" we respond by saying "they may be a little but you can't do what we do with the money. Rotary is successful in doing great things with your help. · Lyle breathed easily as the speaker arrived from her unexpected fender bender on the way here. Lyle also bid adieu to rotary for 5 months as he takes his leave to return to the Nuclear Plant, employed once again! Good luck my friend. · Don Hutton paid three bucks and publically bitched about the fact that in choosing his tree president Denis actually picked through seven of them before he found a 9 foot keeper that would satisfy the bride! · Sue paid a buck and made a plea for help in obtaining persons who would be willing to billet a visiting couple from Scotland in the summer when their TEAM visits. Anyone interested please notify her ASAP. · In true Freethy fashion Reg related his most recent "sled escapade" involving his sled, a 2" maple sapling the undercarriage and a two and a half hour jaunt through the snow covered woods in the dark where no man should go alone. Things turned out well and we're glad Reg is back. Reg's only comment was "And Paul Morris wasn't even with me!" · Brian B gets the award this week. As he searched for his marriage license he did what all good men do to finally find it he asked his wife. She, being a type "A" organizer yelled back "It's in the file marked Joan's work Experience" · Al Sylvester venturing forth on the back deck glanced up over the town and saw the wondrous sight of the town lit to the hilt. He called Martha to come and see and noticed it moved then stopped. Both discovered it was the "Christmas train collecting food for the needy." |

Once our guest arrived we all breathed a sigh of relief. She was not injured and was ready to speak to us on a topic that is near and dear to our hearts - "Girls Can Do Anything". Angie D introduced Jenifer Merifield as a writer, mentor, mother of twins, motivational speaker. She espouses that girls need to develop their self esteem which then provides the tools for them to create the life they want. Jennifer inspires courage and provides support developing the concept for each young girl to "be real and be you". Through the publication of her magazine by the same title "Girls Can Do Anything", Jennifer attempts to question the status quo and change perceptions - thin is not in and everyone doesn't have to be Hollywood glamorous to succeed - beauty from the inside not the outside is what she champions. It looks like a great read. In addition Jenifer believes: · Finding a good role model is a key contributor to success · Showing the inner self rather than only the outer self is key to building self esteem · Everyone should be good enough the way we are · If you can change your perceptions, you can change your belief · Lots can happen and will There is a lot of thought that has gone into this. If we add active parenting, this magazine and an effective experience at schools we can assure our daughters, nieces and grandchildren that they have a good chance a succeeding at whatever they choose to do! Other points Jenifer emphasized: · We can all make someone's opinion matter · Our judgment effects our decisions · Her magazine has 28 writers from all across Canada · Since May '07 people have written in about their situations · Topics include fat, weight, sexual activity · The messages adults send kids through the media, us and our peers really effects what they do · Again the real beauty of someone is what is on the inside · Filling in time with memorable activities involving music, art, literature, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, sports teams and activities · Develop teamwork and leadership skills There will be a digital version of the magazine coming out in the spring. Tom ( a father of two teenaged girls) thanked Jenifer for a great job and I'm certain everyone went home or to work with something to talk about at the supper table tonight. |
