Today Gene Burns talked to us about Ambassadorial Scholarships. The people chosen for these scholarships are ambassadors of goodwill. These people travel to different places all over the world to learn and take in local tradition and culture. The scholars increase awareness of and respect for cultural differences around the world. They also instill the idea of service above self.

The scholarship covers most the person's expenses they might have. This is might include travel, tuition and books plus some extra money.

Every scholar gets a Rotarian counselor to help answer any questions or concerns that they may have about their new surroundings.

To be eligible the person must be in post-secondary education. Candidates are ineligible if they are currently Rotarians or relatives of Rotarians.

Maira talked about her great experiences in Canada and studying at the U of T. She has quite a bit more knowledge to talk back to her home country of Brazil. Her studies here are going to help in her career back home.

Maira was very greatful for the opportunity to come here and experience rotary in Canada. Now she understands the importance the Rotary has in the world and how there are some people that might not have a chance to something like this otherwise.
