Guests

With President O'Mamma still holidaying in Sicily we had the honour again of having Vice President Fred "Big Dawg" Mandryk chair the meeting in a very capable manner. It will be interesting to hear upon President O'Mammas return next week any stories she might have to share. Word has it that what happens in Sicily stays in Sicily???

Wayne Routly introduced our Remembrance Day guest speaker, Captain Allan Foster Williams CD (retired) who gave us a very personal overview of his 35 years experience in the Canadian military.

Captain Williams explained the contrast and changes from the 60's when he joined until today. He emphasized the Peace Keeping aspect of what Canada does and the respect this garnishes around the world. He reminded us all of Lester B. Pearson who came up with the peace keeping concept.

His tours of duty where in Cyprus, Egypt, Lebanon, The Golan Heights and Cambodia. The assignments were varied and difficult but the common objective was to protect the innocent be they civilians, doctors, nurses etc. He was last stationed in Cambodia where he was wounded and returned home in a wheelchair as a proud Canadian.

Kevin Anyan thanked the speaker.

Pauline provided a DVD of a cemetery in Luxembourg that contains 5000 FALLEN HEROES as a result of THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE during the Second World War and how they are recognized. The club members recognized these FALLEN HEROES with a minute of silence.
