On Tuesday July 12th the Rotary Club of Bowmanville was pleased to present five bursaries, each valued at $1,000, to five deserving students going on to pursue postsecondary education.  The recipients were selected by the guidance department at each school using criteria set by the Rotary Club of Bowmanville.  The criteria included academic achievement, school and community involvement, and financial need. The recipients were:
  • Samantha Barnes from Bowmanville High School.  Samantha will be attending Dalhousie University in Halifax to study microbiology and immunology.
  • Hunter Townson-Van Tooi from Clarke High School.  Hunter's goal is to become an audiologist.  She will be attending the audiology program at St. Lawrence College in Kingston.
  • Erica Lee Rozema from Durham Christian High School.  Erica plans to become a high school teacher.  She intends to begin this career path by studying English literature and philosophy at Redeemer University in Hamilton.
  • Molly Douglas-Priest from St. Stephen Catholic Secondary School.  Molly will be attending Trent University in Peterborough.  Her goal is to become a teacher.
  • Jordyn Olivia Bell from Clarington Central Secondary School.  Jordyn is planning a career in social work.  She will be attending Durham College in Oshawa to pursue her goals.
Following the presentations of the bursaries, one of our Club members, Jason Van Siphout, generously pledged to add an additional $200 to each of the bursaries. The Rotary Club of Bowmanville and the Youth Service Committee wish the very best of luck to these five outstanding young women.  There is a bright future ahead for all of them.  Congratulations!
